I'm sure people are annoyed at seeing Genjutsu suggestion topics, lol, but this time I was hit with a sudden idea that might be pretty nice to enact.
It has several key points, basically as a means to balance them and make them less newbish, especially in large-scale fights like Raids or FFAs.
Basically: --Genjutsu freezes both the user and the victim.
--After the freeze lands, it keeps both players frozen until it's duration ends (5~15s depending on the gen -- higher level gens have shorter timers) unless Genjutsu Kai is used.
--Genjutsu Kai not only removes the user from the Freeze, it leaves the opponent "stunned" for the rest of the duration as an after-effect of their genjutsu being cancelled. The damage is also negated from occurring against the freed opponent.
--Genjutsu Kai requires more chakra the larger the discrepancy between the caster's gen and the binder's gen. For example, using current stats, if the player using kai has 1k Gen and the opponent has 10k Gen, the person using Kai must pay 9k chakra to release the Genjutsu.
Some additional thoughts: --Genjutsu's damage is dependent on the difference between the caster and victim's Gen stats. Not entirely sure how to fairly work this, so I'll leave that up to people with a bigger general scope of things than myself.
--Uchiha's unique stun-based Genjutsus (Tsukiyomi when added, and Utakata) could have durations of 2s; however they could also need potentially longer cooldowns.
--In general, Genjutsus would need longer cooldowns.

Why would a genjutsu free the user?

@both of you since I'm spoiled to hell by GameFAQs and EQ2's quote system and refuse to use this one...xD
The primary reason for it is to negate the noobiness factor. Obviously, Genjutsu need to be useful, but the way they are atm is the reason they are tourney banned -- you use them as a crutch to either fix your aim, or ohko. Notice the top two most overused gens in the game (Tree bind, Utakata) cannot be Kai'd. It is not supposed to accurately reflect the anime -- the only reason Genjutsu is not an op killer move in the Anime is because every plot-relevant character either started immune to Genjutsu, or is now 100% immune due to plot BS.
Also note that during the effects of most Genjutsu, everything occuring is in the effected player's mind. For all they know, you really did stab them in the neck with a sword or put stakes through their arms. You do not necessarily have to be mobile yourself to facilitate this.
Balance should be prioritized before anime accuracy.

get kai, or use clones for hand binding. and if they add the "having more genjutsu makes u have a chance to avoid without kai" that would also be helpful

Still doesn't give gen enough of a REASONABLE drawback. Also, you are talking in terms of current stats and mechanics where we know we'll only run out of chakra if we derp up. If our Chakra pools are much more limited, we don't want to use unnecessary justu. Saying that Kai and Bunshins is a reasonable drawback is becoming more and more moot. Especially against clans who can choose to get creative and deviate from standard build patterns. Plenty of ways to clear out bunshins, and if the chakra is handled properly in 3.0 then overusing Kai would have ramifications. TBH I think you are adverse to the idea of Gen being non-noobish, Zezu, for a variety of reasons.

Actually Itachi used Tsukiyomi to free Sasuke as Sasuke used Tsukiyomi to free Itachi when Kabuto used his genjutsu. so genjutsu can free you from genjutsu! ITS A VICIOUS CIRCLE D:

That has nothing to do with something But in all seriousness, the above wasn't necessarily a direct jab at Zezu, all he is really doing though is saying "don't see why don't see why" without actually providing a reasonable alternative that does not involve using unrelated abilities to balance Gen. XD
