Okay. So I was thinking about doing a Nuzlocke run. Should be fun I think. For those of you that don't know what Nuzlocke is, it's a set of rules you set upon yourself to make a Pokemon game more challenging and rewarding to complete. Don't use a hacked/edited version of the game. If you're using an emulator, only use the roms with the Anti-piracy patch included. No I won't tell you where to acquire the roms.
What I'd like to do, is make a thread and impose this challenge on quite a few of you guys. Here's a set of rules:
First the basic Nuzlocke rules:
1) You can only catch the first Pokemon that appears in an area. The VERY first that appears, if it dies, you can no longer capture a Pokemon in that area/route/cave. Period. This includes routes/caves/passages/waterways that have multiple entrances. It STILL counts as one, so be careful where you tread. You can not catch a legendary at all, you must kill them. Also don't reset the game if you kill a Pokemon accidentally, just keep it going. In areas that make Pokemon appear in double battles, which one you capture is up to you entirely. Additionally, in games where this is valid, the Safari Zone counts as 1 area, and the Bug Catching Contest and Safari Zone count as ONE area, not two. So if you choose to participate in the Bug Catching Contest, then you cannot capture a Pokemon in the Safari Zone and vice versa. Towns that have water can be fished in, each Town with water counts as a different area as well.
2) If your Pokemon faints, it is dead and must be deposited into your PC box, and released. No exceptions, including your starter. If all of your Pokemon faint for any reason, it is game over and you lose the challenge.
3) You must nickname all of your Pokemon. Even silly, nonsensical names or "just because I have to" nicknames like Fuck You.
Additional rules for this challenge:
1) You may only use poke balls to catch Pokemon. No Master balls, no Great/Ultras, no Net balls, etc.
2) You may not edit the game in any way. This includes editing to get Pokemon that need trades such as Alakazam or Scizor. If you end up trying to get those, you're S.O.L (Shit outta luck). This includes editing for different starters.
3) No trades except for ones within the game itself.
4) Potions limited to 10 per type (Super Potions, Hyper Potions, Paralyze Heal, etc.) this is the same with vended drinks (Fresh Water, Lemonade, Soda Pop). No restriction on the amount of berries you are holding. You can keep planting and growing them as you wish. FULL RESTORES CANNOT BE USED!
5) No boosting held items. Only held items can be berries and Leftovers.
6) Cannot challenge a gym with more total Pokemon than the Gym Leader. Meaning, if the Gym Leader has two, you use two. If the Gym Leader has 5, you can use 5. All Pokemon of your team you don't choose to go into the battle with must be boxed. If your team loses that gym challenge and you black/white out, it is still considered a failure of the entire challenge.
7) IF YOU ENCOUNTER A SHINY POKEMON!! And you have already caught a Pokemon in that area. You may STILL capture the shiny Pokemon if it is non-legendary. This is the only exception to the first rule because of the rarity of shiny Pokemon encounters. You may not use a cheat/edit to make shiny Pokemon appear more often as that is in violation of prior rules.
(By Request)8) Max pokemon level when facing a Gym or the E4, cannot exceed the highest level of the Gym Leader's/Champion's highest pokemon level.
The following is an optional rule, whether or not you wish to do this one is your own decision:
1) Change the battle style in options to Set. That way the Pokemon must battle until it dies.
2) Starter Pokémon is based off your Trainer ID number. If the last number is 1-3 the player starts with a Grass type, 4-6 is Fire type, 7-9 is Water type, 0 is the player's choice.
3) Pokemon Center visits limited to 5 per town. Cannot use Mom to heal.
All other rules besides these one are set in stone and uncompromisable.
What I'd like for you to do is if you do decide to take this challenge, state here what game you do it on from the following list:
Heartgold or Soulsilver
FireRed or LeafGreen
Diamond/Pearl or Platinum
Black or White
Black 2 or White 2
Leave your character name, starter, version, and (if applicable) Mode to begin. And as you capture Pokemon, leave their area, nickname, and level here too (requires editing of your post OR a new post, just don't double post.) If they die, leave their level of death and (optionally) their evolutionary stage. I'd use my White 2 challenge mode Nuzlocke, but it has a different set of rules that allowed me to start with my Shiny Gible I got from completing my Black 2. So, since I've never finished the Gen IV games, I'm going to go with Platinum. I'll update it when I start. Feel free to leave your info if you so choose. I could understand a lot of people not wanting to do this lol.
Also, if you are doing one of the optional rules, list which ones in your post as well.
NUZLOCKE CHALLENGE ONLY COMPLETE WHEN YOU FINISH THE GAME!
What this means is. If you're playing HG/SS you must complete the Kanto half to finish the game. FireRed/LeafGreen don't have too many extra things after beating the League, so this is the shortest challenge.
D/P/Pt, Defeat the Battle Tower/whatever the extra challenge is that's unlocked after beating the E4.
B/W, complete the challenge unlocked after beating the E4.
B2/W2, Complete Black Tower or White Forest challenges.
While doing these Post-E4 challenges, the level lock restriction will become optional due to the sharp increase in difficulty.
