Matt, I know you were thinking of a profession system that you now want to scrap and when you first proposed the idea, this kind of went along with it, but this is also a stand-alone suggestion.
Basically, this is just adding more stats to be trained for making a 'better' character and also for jutsu learning and mastery. It doesn't have to start off (or even be altogether) elaborate, but it adds a little more to the 'sit at a stump' training, 'just level up and you'll get this jutsu'.
So, a couple of stats that I've thought of thus far are:
-Accuracy
-Insight/Acuity/Intelligence/Sharpness
-Elemental Mastery
What is the purpose? Well I just got to thinking... Just because you are of a clan, doesn't mean you should automatically learn their jutsus... You should, of course have the chance to, but through specific measures. What brought this to my attention was the Hyuuga clan. Both Hanabi and Hinata are of the main branch and even then their prowess differ. And then when you factor Neji into the equation, he is from the lower branch and his prowess vastly differs. Eventhough they're all from the Hyuuga clan boasting the same Jyuuken fighting style, their styles differ (if that makes sense) and they don't use the same jutsus, although they're all capable of through their bloodline (of course skills come into play as to why they can't).
If we look at our Uchiha clan members: Madara, Sasuke, Itachi, and (for the time being just bear with this ok?) Kakashi, all geniuses by far. All more than likely, more than capable of using the same jutsus in the same element. For example, we know that both Itachi and Kakashi are suiton, I'd bet that they both were capable of using (or rather learning) the same suiton jutsus. However, even amongst those similar geniuses, lie their differences in combat.
Now what do we do with those three stats I posted?
Accuracy[/u]
(Self Explanatory)
I am well aware that there is a 'dodge' function based upon speed. I suppose in general speaking terms, this can work hand-in-hand with said dodge function. However, I think it could extend beyond just taijutsu and affect ninjutsu as well as Weapon Throwing. Now specifically speaking, this can greatly affect clans like Hyuuga and the Kidomaru (all I can think of).
The greater the accuracy for a Hyuuga, the better chances he/she has of hitting a tenketsu and providing exponential damage to the foe (I guess his/her move speed could be hindered as an addition to a deduction of chakra).
And Kidomaru arrows, in addition to regular throwing weapons are self explanatory
If you don't feel like adding in extra utilities to train this feature, Throw Training could also serve as an increase to Accuracy.
Insight/Acuity/Intelligence/Sharpness[/u]
Ok, so I grouped together a bunch of words that can be synonymous, but at times mean different things, what am I thinking? Well, they're one in the same here, but affect clans in different ways.
Generally Speaking, intelligence affects how easy or difficult it is for one to learn a jutsu. For example,
Let's say that I have all the requirements to learn a Katon jutsu: Level 50 + 10% Katon Element Mastery. Now if my intelligence is 100% (or if we use numbers, very high lol), then I may not even need to be exactly level 50 and have 10% KEM; I might get away with learning the jutsu at level 45 and 5% KEM. Now if my intelligence is 0%, now I might have to go beyond just Level 50 and 10% KEM for the jutsu --- I might need anywhere between 15-20% mastery and need to be anywhere between level 60-70. Got it?
Now Specifically Speaking this affects dojutsu users. Let me go back to my Hyuuga to serve as an example. Here, Intelligence takes the form of Acuity or Insight, pretty much: how well can you see beyond the means of seeing... The acuity stat directly affects the limits of the Dojutsu, for example:
No Insight == No Byakugan
Little Insight == Byakugan with limited range
Medium Insight == Byakugan, with limited range + visible tenketsus (enables user to use Palms)
High Insight == Byakugan with max range + visible tenketsus
To train this stat, you can build like a Library Turf with a bunch of books were we just macro read or some crap like that...
Elemental Mastery[/u]
(Self Explanatory)
How adept one is in his/her element(s). This stat serves as the gateway to learning more advanced jutsus within the element. There could be various ways to train this stat:
Using jutsus within the element
Adding a [insert element here] Master NPC
And/or those aforementioned books I talked about
Also, one last thing about the Hyuuga clan (I may later regret all these 'suggestions/changes' lol). I think their ability to use Jyuuken, Palms, and Kaiten should also depend on their Chakra Control. If the control is under n% (you pick the number) then these (or whichever of these) jutsus are inaccessible. With all this in regards to Hyuuga, they should also get a buff, if necessary.
That is all. Oh yea, you can code me with the Haoshoku Haki also.
