It's been about 3 years since I've put pencil to paper so I decided to see if I still got it. Im trying to dust off the rust and become adequate once more because I recently obtained a Tablet. I'm very keen on trying to create some cartoons, or at the very least, some short animations.
So below are some quick sketches in which I tried to make it look like I spent more time on them than I actually did, by attempting to use some "decent" shading, let me know what you think.
note: these pictures were taken with my phone's camera from a regular spiral notebook, I apologize for the quality.

When I was younger, I always drew DBZ characters, so I wasn't drawing this picture as a measure of comparison. Rather, I was trying to see how much I could bring out with shading and compare the differences in my styles between now and back then
[Sasuke] had to cut off full picture, lens wasn't wide enough

Honestly, I believe that One Piece and Naruto has some very smooth lineart, so I was tempted to draw this.

Lastly, I wanted to create something from scratch, without a reference picture, so I drew this. Obviously there was more need for erasing and stray marks as you can see, but the picture itself is still not completed (taking AP art you learn that it takes much more than one may have thought for a picture to be completed). Here I was trying to focus on a line design detail spotted on the hoodie, in addition to shading. But the notable thing is that the shading here isn't "generic" so to say; anybody could see that the shading on the clothes are unrealistic. What I did here was use the shading as a substitute for "random details".
