DISCLAIMER; THIS IS NOT A SUGGESTION, OR PUNISHMENT APPEAL.
Yesterday an issue of racism and essentially filter abuse occured. I posted this, and it was deleted. I posted it on the forums because i was told to by numerous players and the admins. Yet, when I did it was deleted. It seems anytime someone brings the admins into question they're punished. Examples could be an admin badmouths a player and the player shames him over ooc. That player is punished with admin verbs for defending themselves. Matt's staff held ambiguity over their playerbase, it added to the fact that the series naruto would always have new material, thus he could always have new surprises. But this ambiguity can create distrust in the playerbase. I'm not just speaking out of my ass either, the post I made last night had screen shots of the conversation.
Today I logged on and Lemoni complained that my post was one sided? Assuming this would be basis enough to destroy the topic, as opposed to allowing others to see and form their own opinions about it. Regardless I actually asked the admin who was in question in the topic if I was being one sided and he did not disagree. After proving Lemoni wrong I entered an interesting conversation with Avarice and Lemoni who teleported to me. (And Lemoni Telekilled me but thats not what this is about.)
The discussion or "arguement" was about the fact players can't post links in OOC. My arguement was NtFB rules are outdated and that NtFB is the only chat/pvp/rpg that polices players for sharing links with their friends. Actually, only the players are not allowed to share links. The admins can. The mechanism was put in to prevent I'm assuming sharing of virus', advertising, and disconnect links. Firstly, a disconnect link is not harmful. A person clicks it once and logs right back on with no problems, however it is something naturally frowned upon meaning posting disconnect links would result in punishment. In continuation essentially what I'm suggesting is, People who break the rules should be punished by the rules. Players who abide by the rules should not be limited on what they can say in OOC. If a friend wants to share a video they're inclined to tediously edit the link, or share through another source of contact; This even enforces a cradle for players to break the rules, by having a space disattached to NtFB's rules they can share secret reqs, secret locations, etc.
If someone posts a malicious link they should be punished. If someone wants to link a funny youtube video, they should be laughed at. If you dont want to click someones links you dont have to. Advertising can be simply limited to spamming the links. Advertising once is a punishment, (unless understood otherwise.) Spamming is a definite punishment. Spamming becomes another issue.
There is so much ambiguity in the rules that certain rules are created on the fly, this admining system literally represents North Korea. A clear definition of what spamming, according to the rules of OUR chat room should be shown. Personally; 3 times in direct speedy succesion, and individual links would only be able to be posted 3 times a day. (Links usually directing people to topics on the forums.)
The reason I'm making this is because I know how the punishment system on NtFB works thoroughly. Some parts indirectly turn unoffensive players, into rule breakers. What I'm suggesting is a serious look through of some of the chat laws. Please utilize the factors that times have changed, it is now 2014 going on 2015. To hold on to out of date rules is ignorant. I'm not saying all the rules are bad, but perhaps a new system needs to be proposed. NtFB before anything is a community, you're either invited in or you're rejected. If you're rejected you essentially become subject to the rules and punishment. But if you are accepted, you can see that everyone feeds off unity. I don't think the rules were set to force people to act unnaturally. It was to set guidelines on whats inappropriate. These things have changed, also please take into understanding that the actual NtFB community has gotten older. I would say there are less younger players on NtFB now than there ever were, and that is not to say we should not consider them. In considering them, one would find more young people swear than older people even. Just a thought, Im not trying to "incite uproar" or whatever. I just want someone who reads this to think, maybe for once I'm not trolling. Just give my thoughts a chance because anyone who actually knows me knows i'm not a dick. Im nice to all of my friends, and I actually care about ntfb. I've been a supporter of this game through and through for years.
peace.
