It's only 10 bucks, and it matches what you want out of a game. >>Good? One of the best games released for the PlayStation 1 >>Challenging? Most definitely. The turn based system makes it different from modern games, and you'll encounter powerful opponents that require strategic thinking. >>Long? Considering it's 3 discs long, this is one hellava long game. I recently started playing it again, and after 5 hours into playing (game wise, really I've put about 7 hours into playing), I found out I'm only a slight way through the first disc. The story is fun. Most of the situations you find yourself in are very serious one moment, and then very comical the next. Guaranteed hours of enjoyment.

I didn't either, but once you start playing, it gets fun. Plus, everyone loves Pokemon, and that's turn based ;D

FF VII is not the game you want to get off of psn. Legend of Dragoon is. Its turn based as well, its Not a FF game, and its 4 discs long, so take that > little big planet 1 and 2 are fun, relaxed games. Idk about challenging, but they are fun to play by yourself, or with other people. Tbh idk besides Infamous 1 and 2. those are fun games as well. I haven't really played a challenging game in awhile, so idk what I could suggest for that lol.

inFamous got boring tbh.
Red, I don't really like turn based games (turned me away from the Final Fantasy series) but FF VII is definitely a good play. To really learn the entire story, you would need to play Crisis Core, then FF VII for psx, then Dirge of Cerberus, and then Advent Children (Complete, make sure you watch the complete one >_> there's two versions and the complete one is slightly longer and better).
Legend of Dragoon is another must play. I played that when I was younger and it definitely put a spin on the turn based genre. I mean, your combos require you to correctly time button presses which get increasingly more challenging as you unlock the longer, stronger, more complex combos.
Dragon's Dogma: Probably can get this on sale somewhere to bring it in your price range. The game is long, challenging, and very fun. To be honest you'll spend a hell of a lot more time on the side quests than the main story, which is another plus.
Digimon World 2: A game similar to pokemon with a few added elements. For one, it's a dungeon crawler. You need to upgrade your digibeetle (vehicle) to be able to traverse the longer dungeons, and even though it's turn based it's arguably one of the most fun games for Psx. The game is decently long considering that you'll have to battle hordes of different digimon teams and raise dat money for the necessary upgrades. Also it's time consuming because dna digivolving puts your digimon back at base level of the previous rank (2 lv11 champion will dna digivolve to a level 1 Rookie, 2 lv 50 megas will go down to a lv 41 Ultimate). It's intricate and fun, I would recommend you try it.
Dynasty Warriors 5 Xtreme Legends & Empires: The whole three game set you can probably get under $50 (Dynasty Warriors 5, Dynasty Warriors 5: Xtreme Legends, & Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires). They are hack n' slash mission type games except for Empires, which combines a little strategy RTS with the hack n' slash.
Devil May Cry 3: If you feel like rage quitting, get a copy of the original Devil May Cry 3. Otherwise get Dante's Awakening (which is a slightly easier version while the original was considered unbeatable even by die-hard fans on normal difficulty).
Ninja Gaiden I & II
Ultimate Tenkaichi (can get frustrating when fighting in the hardest mode and your Hero is weaker).
Saint's Row the Third (decently long plus completely outrageous at times and hilarious lol)
GTA IV + Expansions: Length + good gameplay here. Put it on the hardest mode without cheats and have fun.

With playstation plus membership, you get to download games from ps store for free(some games) every month! It's awesome, though the games don't work(or turn to demos) after your membership is over :/
Which is why I say just buy Dragonball Raging Blast 2!!
It's awesome..

This, in all of it's glory. Advent Children Complete <3 <3 <3 It actually made Geostigma look deadly and horrific.

-Tales of Vesperia -Tales of Graces f -Final Fantasy VII/VIII/IX/XIII/XIII-2 -Legend of Dragoon -Chrono Cross (not sure if this is on the PSN) -Disgaea (not sure if you'll want to skip the PS2 prequels or not) -God of War (not sure if you'll want to skip the PS2 prequels or not) -Metal Gear Solid (not sure if you'll want to skip the PS2/PS1 prequels or not) -Ninja Gaiden (not sure if you'll want to skip the prequels or not) -Star Ocean (not sure if you'll want to skip the PS2/PS1 prequels or not) -Suikoden (not sure if you'll want to skip the PS2/PS1 prequels or not) -Atelier Series (not sure if you'll want to skip the PS2 prequels or not)
That's all I can think of for PS3 off the top of my head
Well, to be honest, Final Fantasy VII's story is detailed enough to be a stand-alone in my opinion. Each one of it's spin-offs, Dirge of Cerebrus, Crisis Core, Advent Children, etc. is like horrible in my opinion.
But then again, I never liked Final Fantasy VII as much as everyone else, don't get me wrong, it's good, but I do favor VIII over it, so I may [or may not] be a little biased.

I enjoy the spin-offs. Especially Crisis Core. But now when I watch Advent Children Complete, my heart breaks every time they mention Zack D:

Idk how you can say that kyuubi D: Also I noticed you completely skipped FF X. I would add that into the FF must play list, especially when you put 9 in there <.< In my personal opinion, FF 7 has been the best, followed closely by 8, then 10. I didn't play 13 because I'm only interested in FF vs 13 lol first FF game featuring blood in gameplay? Yes... yes I want. That's story wise. Gameplay wise I'd have the same list but switch around 10 and 8. Can't knock that fuckin blitzball Also I think if he plays Chrono Cross he might as well play Chrono Trigger first.. -God of War: Play all of them. -Ninja Gaiden: Play I and II.. III was... sub-par... good but not great. -Metal Gear Solid: Play the psx one first. Snake-kun? Snake-kun!? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE-KUUUUN!!!!!!!! -Star Ocean: Innovated battle system. I played Till The End of Time and I loved it, also the subtle choice system makes a second playthrough bearable. -Suikoden: Desperately trying to force myself to play one of the psx ones. Suikoden IV I think. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game. But I've grown impatient in my later years. -Atelier series: Only thing that turned me away from this is that I'm picky about my games these days. I love to create a character and have him embedded into the storyline. On another note. Red if you're willing to try turn based games there's also Dragon Quest: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Dragon Quest V I think), the game is long as hell and is credited as being the first game that had a playable pregnancy (basically you had a son in the game). Red if you can get into RTS, those are possibly the hardest, longest, and most challenging games you can play. At least from my experience.

I don't know, Advent Children's story was just like... "what's the point?" and all...
Crisis Core was like... Introducing Genesis into the mix to create a whole new story in of itself was unnecessary and kind of convolutes things. Don't get me wrong, it's not something really hard to follow, but a lot of which that is really insignificant, they try to make a big deal out of it. Not to mention this creates some plot errors/holes, a lot of which those 'FFVII elitist' take a little too far.
And lastly, it doesn't matter which Final Fantasy VII we talk about, I will always hate the fact that Cloud beats Sephiroth... Like come on... seriously....
Genesis, no... Angeal, no... Zack Fair, NO... Cloud Strife..... yes - wtf.. Especially the events that transpire in Crisis Core allowing him to 'beat' Sephiroth... Come on now...
I left out Final Fantasy X because it isn't on the PS3, but I just remembered that it has/is getting an HD remake.
Matter of fact, just forget the PS3 and get Hamachi or Kaillera and then we can play against each other in games like Super Smash Bros, Pokemon, Megaman, etc.
